Odor Control Technician (OCT)

Comprehensive Deodorization & Decontamination: We begin with general concepts, like how odor is perceived; odor types; the difference between “real” and “psychological” odor; how odor is amplified, and how it penetrates surfaces.

This one-day course emphasizes the importance of understanding the job scope and regulatory issues (OSHA, EPA) involving risk management and loss containment. It covers the types and underlying principles of odor contamination, sources, containment and six options for removing odor and contamination; particles as irritants; toxic gases; smoke odor; cleaning contaminated surfaces and recreating the conditions of odor permeation with appropriate counteractants. Covers PPE, chemical agent application and safety concerns; equipment; terminology and demonstrations of deodorization and decontamination equipment, sprayers, wet foggers, dry foggers, ozone generators. Loss management is covered by highlighting common deodorization and decontamination losses. We’ll cover step-by-step procedures for: Animal urine, freezer power failure, decomposed animals, skunk odor, summary of rules for bloodborne pathogens, smoke odor, contents and automotive.

A must for every restoration technician!


Upholstery & Fabric Cleaning Technician (UFT)

Jeff is one of the industry’s foremost authorities on upholstery cleaning. With over 30 years experience, Jeff helped write the IICRC S300, Upholstery Cleaning Standard. Includes: fibers, fabric constructions, dyeing; soiling, chemistry, principles, spotting, cleaning methods, cleaning categories and techniques. Some 1/3 of this course is hands-on with actual demonstrations of cleaning methods and techniques! This course is a prerequisite for certification in Rug Cleaning Tech (RCT).


Rug Cleaning Technician (RCT)

RCT is taught by Ruth Travis, and assistant instructor Jeff Bishop. (3-Day) Course for Certification. RCT covers natural (wool, silk, cotton, linen, coir, sisal) and synthetic (rayon, nylon, polyester, olefin) fibers, weaving, hand-knotting and tufting; dyeing; rug types and identification; cleaning techniques ranging from minimum-moisture to total-immersion; fringe cleaning, blocking and minor repairs. This is the industry’s only hands-on rug cleaning course, with live demonstrations of hooked, Flokati, Dhurrie, Kelim, oriental and designer rugs, and also demonstrations of actual cat urine removal and 3 methods of fringe cleaning. You’ll learn to identify all major types of oriental and specialty rugs, with actual examples of over 40 rugs on display. The course is being held in a cleaning/restoration plant and features complete immersion cleaning in a rug pit that you can build or purchase. - Prerequisites for RCT certification are: Upholstery & Fabric Technician-UFT and Carpet Cleaning Technician-CCT or Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician-CMT.


Carpet Repair & Reinstallation Technician (RRT)

Advanced Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT)

One of the first IICRC-approved instructors, Jeff holds a degree in Management from the University of Georgia. He has produced 13 books and 7 videos on cleaning and restoration subjects. Jeff Chairs the IICRC Certification Board, consults with fiber producers and carpet mills, and lectures world-wide. Course includes: fibers, yarns, backings, construction (video mill tour!), dyeing, styling options, cushion, installation basics; soiling, IEQ issues; chemistry, principles of cleaning; methods of cleaning, specialty chemicals (deodorants, protectors), animal urine decontamination, spotting, problem areas (browning, streaking, oily tracking, yellowing, rippling). Everything you always wanted to know about carpet and carpet cleaning! This is where it all begins and is a requirement for both Journeyman & Master level status.


Commercial Carpet Maintenance Tech (CMT)

This 3-day course includes hands-on demonstrations of seven (7) cleaning methods: dry compound, bonnet, shampoo, encapsulation, Soil Extraction Transfer, HWE and combination methods to include state of the art technology.

In this course you will learn to clean 10,000 ft2 of commercial carpet per hour and dry it in < 30 minutes, to fulfill your facility manager's requirements. This course includes fibers, carpet constructions, dyeing; soiling, IEQ issues, chemistry, principles, cleaning methods, problem areas and solutions, cleaning categories & techniques related to commercial carpet cleaning. Learn how to put your commercial customers on a planned maintenance program. Complete spotting demonstrations of techniques for removing copier toner, mustard, shoe polish, paint, fingernail polish, coffee, red wine, ink, wax and more.



Health and Safety Technician (HST – 2-day)

Ron is an OSHA General Industry Outreach Trainer with the OSHA Training Institute. He is a Certified Microbial Remediation Supervisor by the American Indoor Air Quality Council. Ron also is a Continuing Education Provider in Ohio since 1995 and offers eight courses of education to the insurance industry. He has been in the restoration business for 25 years and believes that education is the key to success.

This Health and Safety Technician course is provided to increase safety in your workplace and reduce your company’s risk of costly fines and penalties. It is also designed to put you ahead in the restoration industry to show insurance companies that you and your staff are ahead of the competition regarding health & safety. You will learn what to do if an OSHA inspector walks in and you’re out of the office, how to handle an OSHA inspection. Learn when OSHA will come out and when they won’t!!! Learn new record keeping procedures. Understand the importance of posting the OSHA 300, 300A and 301, which OSHA posters are required by law and how to get them free!!! This course will get you prepared for everything you need to show OSHA that you are trying your best to do it the right way. Did you know that trying to do it the right way goes a long way when they are doing an inspection!!!

Understand all your PPE requirements, Hazard Communication, HAZMAT, Confined Spaces, Bloodborne Pathogens, Means of Entry and Egress, Fire Protection and more!!!

Upon completion of HST you will receive the OSHA ten-hour card. $395 per person includes both the HST course manual and OSHA CFR1910. The IICRC Certification exam administered at the end of the course. Exam fees are payable to IICRC and not included in registration. This course is a requirement for IICRC Master Fire & Smoke Restorer and Master Water Restorer.


CARPET COLOR REPAIR TECHNICIAN (CRT)

Ruth is the only IICRC-approved instructor who has a degree in Textiles from the Univ. of Tennessee. She's been doing this work for over 15 years & is the former Chair of the IICRC Color Repair Technician Technical Advisory Committee. Currently, Ruth currently serves as President of the IICRC & past president of SCRT. Since she doesn't work for a dye manufacturer, you get a completely generic course featuring 2-3 different dye kits, along with the advantages & disadvantages of each. Most important to you, there is more hands-on training in Ruth's course than in any other out there.
