Agents & Adjusters - Fire Restoration

The entire restoration industry is changing dramatically! New scientific studies reveal major health hazards associated with improperly restored structures and contents. The new attitude is:

  • Restoration isn’t just a “job”: it’s a profession with an expanding body of science to be studied and applied for the benefit of insureds.

  • Recently, Dr. Mike Berry, US EPA , challenged industry members to achieve profession through education. He emphasized restoring for health and safety, rather than for appearance only.

  • Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) issues have overwhelmed restorers and insurers alike.Disaster damage creates many safety and health problems, if restoration isn’t accomplished properly.

  • Liability for improper restoration is increasing.Law suits are being filed against restorers and insurance companies alike.

Problem is, although professional contractors are being educated in new techniques and procedures for fire restoration, word simply isn’t getting to the agents and adjusters who are responsible for administering claims. And that’s the purpose of Clean Care Seminars Agent/Adjuster Fire Restoration Course. “So just what’s included in this course?” you ask. Check this partial list of what your agents and adjusters will learn.

This 4-5 hour course starts with slides depicting the types of restoration claims professional restorers encounter, and how our industry has evolved. We’ll cover party relationships (agents, adjusters, insureds, contractors), and the importance of communication, coordination, and cooperation between all parties to the loss.

We’ll discuss restoration alternatives and soiling associated with fires. We’ll show an actual video shot inside a burning house. We’ll cover on-going damage caused by acid residues, corrosion, and yellowing of furnishings and fixtures. We’ll point out the critical importance of contractor response, emphasizing the continuing damage that occurs in minutes, hours, days, and weeks. Throughout we’ll continue to highlight the importance of proper claims management, of keeping adjusters informed from start to finish. We’ll discuss structural restoration including: asbestos abatement, ceilings, walls, fixtures, flooring, unfinished areas (attics, crawlspaces), structural exteriors, and HVAC systems.

From there, we’ll cover contents restoration including: soft furnishings (upholstery, bedding), window treatments (draperies), wood furniture (case goods), appliances, electronics, dry cleaning and laundry, personal items, high-value items, kitchen accessories, books, and miscellaneous services. To liven up the course, we provide live demonstrations and video examples of restoration procedures using state-of-the-art technology. Emphasis is placed on less expensive restoration alternatives, as opposed to immediate tear out and replacement.
